The non-phone iPhone

As a 1st adopter iPhone buyer, I skipped 3G. That's my first confession. The second and last confession is that after 9 months, I finally dropped the AT&T service on the iPhone since I am die-hard Blackberry power user on the 8830 Sprint with 3G EVDO rockin.

Ok - I have aired my transgressions

My non-phone iPhone is renewed and full of life post the 2.0 software launch. Prior to this - it was great as a pwnd toy with all sorts of non-app store apps in the wild and full of life. Now, with 2.0, the richness of apps is emerging from within the store and pretty darn good stuff is coming to the table.

A beef however - where the heck is my ability to "try" an app prior to deciding to buy the darn thing. Hello? Let's get the shareware cookin in the app store gang.

Back to the non-phone iPhone point:
This thing isn't and, in my opinion as well as those of others, won't be ready to tackle BB world for a bit.

What this thing IS great at:
Try using it as a great tool for local proximity to a hotspot. As a mobile wifi device with browsing and app store rich applications it definitely rocks.

What this thing is missing to move it from GREAT to BRILLIANT
Drop the phone (sorry ma bell) - put a functioning SIP client on the thing and lets Skype, or whatever you're into, until our hearts are content.

Oh yeah, and by the way Apple, untie all those great music apps to multitask so that they can background while I work on other apps. Its not just an iTunes world kids. Unless you're going to let the iTunes radio stations stream within the iPhone client - drop the c#%(p and let these apps truly flourish - Pandora is brilliant, AOL radio has executed nicely, etc.

Oh and another thing - let's get Gcal sync and some other basics working - no excuses gang.

Perhaps you will get the notion of replaceable batteries in a 3rd generation iPhone that will also hopefully get the notion that 3G ain't all that - let's get the 4G rockin with Wimax kids.

For all you new 3G users - let's admit - this device rocks IF you drop the 3G and save the battery life. Cancel those ma bell service contract and use this thing as a great iPod Touch that has a camera and speakers.

Blogitate on that for a while.
